Atherton, CA

When a family approached us to design a new home in Atherton, they arrived with a clear yet quietly ambitious vision: a house of generous scale that would feel warm rather than imposing, personal rather than palatial. Working alongside the architect and builder from the earliest stages, we created interiors rooted in the earth: organic materials, considered proportions, and a palette drawn from nature. The result is a 16,000-square-foot home that envelops rather than overwhelms, its warmth expressed through hand-chiseled stone, a custom bronze kitchen hood, and the soft glow of lime-washed walls.

It is quiet and simple, but so elegant. You feel enveloped by this warmth.

No room is too functional or small for a meaningful gesture. Inspired by the working kitchens of New York restaurants, we wrapped a butler’s pantry in warm subway tile, transforming a utilitarian space into one with quiet character. In a powder room, a custom wood-and-stone vanity draws on the restraint of Japanese design, while gold-toned fixtures catch the light like jewelry.

Like the finishing touches on a bespoke garment, architectural details elevate every room. A black plaster mantel with sharp mitered corners anchors the living room against a background of white fluted paneling. In the dining room, antiqued mirror set within a custom steel cabinet softens reflections and lends an old-world glamour to the space.

In every room there has to be a focal point—something that makes a statement, but in a very understated way.

Designed to bring people together, the home is equally suited to lively gatherings and intimate evenings with family. A cinema room features extra-long leather seating and fabric-covered walls that enhance the acoustics. Nearby, a bar layered with handmade blue tile, woven leather barstools, and blackened brass pendants invites guests to linger long after dinner or a movie.
