Gallery Farmhouse

Woodside, CA

When new owners purchased a classic red farmhouse in Woodside, they invited us to preserve its rustic charm while lending the interiors timeless elegance: a refined setting for living and for art. We set out to create an atmosphere in harmony with the sun-dappled views outside the windows. Natural materials, soft textures, and sculptural forms set a luminous stage, layered in shades of white and green that echo the gardens and olive trees beyond. In the gardens, a pergola surrounded by flowers affords views of the distant, hazy mountains and the wide northern California sky.

The owners’ photography collection, featuring a Candida Höfer in the dining room, became the home’s center of gravity. Every object feels in dialogue with the artwork, from the cast bronze mirror by Vogel Studio to the handmade ceramics on the dining table.

The color olive threads through the house, a warm neutral that grounds the gallery-white interiors, echoing the olive trees just outside. In the library, it envelops the millwork; in a hallway, it wraps the space entirely, walls and moldings alike. Above an upholstered bench, an antique gilt mirror—oversized, ornate, pulled from the owners’ collection—hangs as the room’s one unexpected flourish.
